Artist's Comments

A small selection of useful crosshatching brushes for Adobe Illustrator CS2. To use these, simply load them from the brushes pallette flyout menu. Once loaded, they can be applied in lieu of a stroke. Note that the colourizing method for these brushes is Hue Shift, which means that if you try to apply white to the brush stroke, it will actually turn a light pink. I'm not sure if this is a glitch in Illustrator or the brushes themselves.

Use the download link to download the brushes to your desktop. To make them slightly more accessible, you can place the file in the Illustrator > Presets > Brushes folder and they will appear in the list of brushes available in the flyout menu of the Brushes pallette.

To the best of my knowledge, this file should load just fine in Illustrator CS, but I haven't tried it.

[EDIT] Zipped the file for better cross-platform compatibility. Also, if you want an example of the brushes, this is a logo I designed using them, and this is the portfolio of the guy who gave them to me.

Let me know if you find these useful. I'd be curious to see any artwork you guys make with 'em as well.

no...ok first off its a zip file right??
ok it needs to be unzipped then take that file and drag it to
C file - program files - adobe illustrator CS - presets brushes
then once the program is open you go to windows and brushes then select other find that AI file select it and a little window should open and you can use them.
btw I didnt download your brushes but I thought I would tell you where they should be placed.

It's not a zip file, it's just an illustrator .ai file. Interestingly, though, when I downloaded it myself, it appeared to have two extensions: .ai.ps (which makes no sense whatsoever, since the file I uploaded only had the .ai extension). Anyway, you should be able to just open it normally in Illustrator and the brushes will be available to you.

Would it work better for you if I zipped the file?

no no... what I meant by zip is I thought it needed to be zipped up in order to upload here.. but I guess not...
im guessing what you are doing is downloading to your desktop then in the program file (open) find your file and then open it??
hmmm im still thinking if this is a brush set it should be placed under C file - program files - adobe illustrator CS - presets brushes in order for it to be used correctly

but hey I could be wrong..

You could probably put it there if you wanted to, but the process for loading it would still be the same - access it from the flyout menu in the Brushes pallette (only it will appear in the main list, rather than having to use the Other Library... item). Alternately, you could open the file Default_CMYK.ai, copy the brushes into that, and save it back again, and those brushes would be immediately available in any new document you create after that. Do the same with Default_RGB.ai and you'll never have to worry about it again.
